"The Bar"
Just come back from a 6 night away job (yeah long time to be away) but it wasn't all that bad and the group was really good......also a VERY rare opportunity cropped up??
Day4 and we were in the bustling metropolis of Katikati (population about 6) although the Kamai Views motel was really nice the truth was I wasn't looking forward to another night here let alone the WHOLE next day off (even if I was getting paid for it)
I did however go prepared with a assortment of surf DVDs,Playstation games,a book (actually a surf mag) and my sports gear.
The teachers hired a car on the first night and they shot around visiting the students at there various home stays around the Tauranga area but on the second day they weren't using it so offered it to me!!!
Front seat all the way back.....board squeezed in ......wetsuit and stuff thrown in the boot and I was off to the legendary Whangamata Bar!!!
So stoked as "The Bar" is one of those waves I'd seen photos and heard stories about.
Recently its been in the news with a decision to go ahead with the construction of a 120 berth marina only to have it overturned which can only be described as a political game of football .
One of the issues is what effects the marina would have on the bar (and most importantly the wave)
I don't know what will happen (if any) but I was just so stoked to get out there......good crew and good waves.....getting paid was just a added bonus :)
